Our Handicap System
The handicap system we use is not a recognised official system for two reasons:-
· 1st, we do not play to a true handicap system as men's maximum handicap would be 36 and ladies 45, and
· 2nd, if I did it would involve far more work than most people would be prepared to give to a social group.
As a social group we did look at joining the official golf handicapping system but the price in fees made it far too expensive. Therefore we have what we have. Our system is designed to give the maximum number of people the chance to be competitive.
To calculate the figure from which a handicap will vary up or down, I need a figure of how many scores will be used to arrive at the Daily Course Rating (DCR) from which handicaps will alter. I use the following in a game :-
40+ players top 15 scores 35 - 39 players top 12 30 - 35 players top 10 25 - 29 players top 8
Then I add the top scores together and divide by that number to arrive at the DCR for the day, so all handicaps will alter up or down depending if you are better or worse than the DCR
It has also been decided that if the DCR is below 30 then only those whose score is above 36 will have their handicaps reduced.
NOTE 1: If at any time the Handicapper believes that a person has not played to the best of his ability or his handicap does not fully reflect his ability, he has the right to change a members score or handicap to truly reflect his ability. This will only be done after long consideration. Should any member disagree with his decision he may request a meeting with the Match Committee to review the Handicapper's decision.
Our Handicap System (contd)
"A" Grade : 0 - 17 handicap | "B" Grade : 18 - 23 handicap | "C" Grade : 24- 33 handicap | "D" Grade 34 - 60 handicap
The handicaps above have been selected with current statistics in mind in an attempt to have an even number of players competing in each grade.
Where your score betters the DCR, your handicap will drop by :
0 –12 - 0.2 per shot
13 –27 - 0.3 per shot
28 –42 - 0.4 per shot
43 –60 - 0.5 per shot
Where your score is less than the DCR, your handicap will increase by:
0 -12 0.1 per shot
13 -27 0.2 per shot
Should you win "Cock of The Walk" with a score equal to, or better than, 36 points you will also lose an additional 5% from your handicap.
