Things You Need To Know!

 INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS

GAME DAYS

  • Games are played on Sundays (usually 1 per month, subject to variation) at various Golf Courses.
  • Game-day lists are posted, in advance, on the notice-board at the RSL. Those wishing to play must place their name on the list or they may indicate their intention to play via the Facebook page. The tee-off time for each game is stated on the game-day list.
  • Players who have nominated for a game (either via the game-day list OR via the Facebook page) but are unable to play on the selected day MUST contact the Captain ( Ian Reichman -  0411 849 280 ) by 8pm on the Wednesday prior to the game to advise of non-attendance.  The majority of golf clubs required payment in advance; therefore the RSL Golf Section is committed to pay for all players booked in for that game.
  • A player who does not attend a game for which he/she has nominated and has not given due notification shall be obliged to pay any golf fees due!

CONDITIONS OF PLAY

  • Players are requested to be at the golf course 30 minutes prior to tee off time.
  • Local conditions at the course (e.g. preferred lies, GUR etc) will apply.

GREEN FEE RATES

  • Green Fee rates are currently $50 per game, regardless of the course being played
  • Golf fees for the day are payable prior to tee-off time
  • For Members, some games may be subsidized by the Golf Section and will be randomly selected and announced on the day prior to tee-off time.

DRESS CODE

  • Members receive a Frankston RSL Golf Section shirt to be worn on Golf days. Please see Bev Cato to arrange this
  • Jumpers and sleeveless jackets are also available (again, see Bev)
  • Members are reminded that jeans, 'cargo' pants and collar-less shirts are deemed unacceptable by many Golf Clubs, so we should therefore dress appropriately

AFTER MATCH FUNCTION

  • A BBQ/Social Function is held back at the RSL after golf for the announcement of results and presentation to the various winners (drinks are available at subsidized prices).

  • Funds are raised during this time via a game-day raffle, fines (i.e. for various [fun] misdemeanours on the golf course etc.) All funds raised go towards Trophies, Prizes, Functions, Weekend Trip Away and donations to various Organisations within the RSL

MEMBERSHIP FEES

MEMBERSHIP COST IS $40-00 PER YEAR.

This is payable on the first game of each year, but MUST be paid before the commencement of the Championship qualifying rounds (or you will be ineligible to compete!).

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FORM

Persons desirous of joining the Frankston RSL Golf Section should complete a membership Application Form and forward it to the Golf Section President for processing. The membership Application Form will be forwarded to you by return email on request to committee@frankstonrsl.com

Be advised that you must be a financial member of the Frankston RSL before you can become a member of the Golf Section.

NEAREST THE PIN vs ON THE GREEN

There appears to be some confusion about how this all works. So at the request of several members, here is the explanation (so please read carefully).

On each Par 3 hole, we try to reward the most accurate shots; "of the day" with 2 golf balls per hole for both Men & Ladies, and over the season with the "Most Accurate" trophy. To do this, we record the most accurate shots on the cards provided at each Par 3
hole.

For the MEN this is simple :

    -   You are on the green for 1 and your ball in nearest the pin

RESULT :    Your name goes under "Nearest To The Pin".

NTP at the end of play earns 2 points towards "Most Accurate".

Do I move the marker to my ball?        YES

    -   You are on the green for 1, but someone-else is nearer the pin

RESULT :    Your name goes under "On The Green".

You get 1 point towards the "Most Accurate" trophy (and you'd be surprised how these add up!)

Do I move the marker?       NO

For the LADIES, it's not quite so simple as you get 2 shots to get on the green. But remember, the emphasis is on your 1st shot (like the guys). So:

On the Green for 1 :

    -   You are on the green for 1 and your ball is nearest the pin

RESULT:    Your name goes under "Nearest To The Pin" with a (1) next to it.

Do I move the marker to my ball?        YES

    -  You are on the the green for 1, but someone else is nearer the pin for 2

RESULT:    Your name goes under "Nearest To The Pin" with a (1) next to it.

Do I move the marker to my ball?        YES

    -  You are on the green for 1, but someone else is nearer the pin for 1

RESULT:    Your name goes under "On The Green" with a (1) next to it.

Do I move the marker?       NO

On the Green for 2 :

    -   You are on the green for 2, nearest to the pin AND no-one else is on for 1

RESULT:     Your name goes under "Nearest To The Pin" with a (2) next to it.

Do I move the marker to my ball?        YES

    -   You are on the green for 2, nearest to the pin BUT someone else is on for 1

RESULT:    Your name goes under "On The Green" with a (2) next to it.

Do I move the marker?       NO

    -   You are on the green for 2 but someone else is nearer to the pin for 2

RESULT:    Your name goes under "On The Green" with a (2) next to it.

Do I move the marker?       NO

If your name is on the "Nearest To The Pin" column, you don't need to enter it again under "On The Green" !
(if you were "Nearest" at any stage, you must have been "On The Green"!)

I sincerely hope this helps those who have been confused, especially the newer members.
Yes, it could be simpler . . . . . we could go back to marking only the 1st shot !

 GOLF ETIQUETTE

SAFETY

  • Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or any stones, pebbles, twigs or the like when they make a stroke or practice swing.
  • Players should not play until the players in front are out of range.
  • Players should always alert green staff nearby or ahead when they are about to make a stroke that might endanger them.
  • If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, he should immediately shout a warning. The traditional word of warning in such a situation is "fore".

CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER PLAYERS

     No Disturbance or Distraction

  • Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by moving, talking or making any unnecessary noise.
  • Players should ensure that any electronic device taken onto the course does not distract other players.
  • On the teeing ground, a player should not tee his ball until it is his turn to play.
  • Players should not stand close to or directly behind the ball, or directly behind the hole, when a player is about to play.

      On the Putting Green

  • On the putting green, players should not stand on another player's line of putt or when he is making a stroke, cast a shadow over his line of putt.
  • Players should remain on or close to the putting green until all other players in the group have holed out.

        Scoring

  • In stroke play, a player who is acting as a marker should, if necessary, on the way to the next tee, check the score with the player concerned and record it.

 The Spirit of the Game

Unlike many sports, golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules. All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be.

This is the spirit of the game of golf.
